Aspen and Ash: from conception to completion

Aspen & Ash is a long-established Cornish joinery company with more than 40 years experience in exclusive flooring across the UK.

Using modern machinery, traditional methods and a wealth of knowledge, Aspen and Ash creates fine flooring and worktops custom designed to the highest quality.

The Cornish oak used by Aspen and Ash is sourced from the sustainable woodlands of Tregothnan Estate in Cornwall, from trees felled as part of the natural thinning process associated with good forestry management.

The engineered wood flooring market is currently awash in cheaper less sustainable wood from often, far flung places.

Aspen and Ash sources wood locally to preserve endangered rainforests and reduce transportation miles, therefore minimising the carbon footprint.

While remaining particular about the source of its timber, Aspen and Ash invites its clients to share the journey of the wood.

All flooring produced by Aspen and Ash, from when it is felled, cut, kiln dried, finished, to when it is sent out, is completed at the workshop at Redruth.

This natural material can be contrasted against chic ultra modern furnishings or used to complement period features to great effect.

From the forest to floor, Aspen and Ash flooring is handmade with precision and passion, bringing warmth and character into your home.

Introducing Aspen Sanding

Aspen Sanding, an associated business of Aspen and Ash, provides the best in hardwood floor maintenance and enhancement by using Lagler floor sanding machines – often called the Rolls Royce of floor sanders. All staff at Aspen Sanding have undertaken certified training with Lagler to produce stunning results.

This means we can offer a bespoke floor sanding service for all types, and sizes, of flooring from home hallways and rooms to sports halls and hotel ballrooms – while keeping dust to a minimum.

A range of bespoke flooring options from Aspen and Ash

Through its endeavour to secure sustainable, high quality wood for its flooring, Aspen & Ash offers English Oak from Lord Falmouth’s Tregothnan Estate, and also reclaimed Douglas Fir for engineered wood flooring.

Tregothnan oak is limited to 300m a week and our characteristic oak flooring is handmade with precision and passion.

Tregothnan, one of the largest estates in the UK, is renowned for its oak forests as well as a range of premium British grown teas.

Wood taken from Tregothnan is only from trees felled as part of the natural thinning process, associated with good forestry management.

The market is currently awash in cheaper less sustainable wood from far flung places. Yet Aspen and Ash sources wood locally to preserve endangered rainforests and reduce transportation miles therefore minimising the carbon footprint.

Aspen & Ash offers beautiful Dinesen style Douglas Fir reclaimed from a large warehouse due for development.

In a time of diminishing natural resources and over forestation, Aspen and Ash seeks out reclaimed timber where possible.

Not only does it benefit the environment, but reclaimed wood, often obtained from old structures is formed from mature trees, and rewarded with hardiness and character.

Reclaimed wood is durable having already stood the test of time and the elements and the grain exudes character – perfect for Aspen and Ash flooring.

Our current Douglas Fir is sourced from the former Smurfitt Kappa factory and warehouse in Thurrock.

Thames Gateway Development Corporation decided to demolish it in favour of developing the site, and Aspen and Ash stepped in to reclaim the organic materials.

To compliment the range of luxury flooring, Aspen and Ash has introduced a range of parquet and chevron flooring

The traditional parquet design adds a classic and contemporary feel to a traditional or modern home, presenting a finish of elegance.

The tough nature of parquet flooring makes it suitable for a variety of spaces, including hallways and lounges. Each block is handcrafted and durable to handle high levels of traffic, while maintaining the timeless appeal of real wood.

Aspen and Ash parquet flooring is available in the signature woods of Tregothnan Oak, Olive Ash or reclaimed Douglas Fir with a variety of finishes including wax or lacquer.

The stock sizes are 300mm by 100mm for the parquet and 550mm by 150mm for the chevron, yet other sizes are available on request.

This retro-style flooring is very much in vogue.

“So we came back from our holiday, during that time away John had been working on transforming our living room floor, we opened the door and exclaimed 'Wow!' that's each of us five in turn. It's the most beautiful flooring I have ever seen - total perfection in its grain and stain. John is not only an artisan craftsman but a floor artist too!”

Claire GarlandSt Cleer

“Aspen and Ash fitted an oak floor to our sun room and to our study, and they both look fabulous. The quality of product, craftsmanship and customer service is excellent, as is value for money. We would thoroughly recommend Aspen and Ash.”

BeverleyGerrans

“I came back from holiday to a new, Aspen and Ash olive ash floor. When I walked through the front door, the smell of the freshly laid wooden floor was wonderful and the overall effect was to really lighten up the ground floor space. Dealings with Peter and the company have been delightful throughout and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them if you’re looking for a company to supply and fit a beautiful, sustainably grown, Cornish wooden floor.”

Janet RiderPenzance

“I was truly blown away by the transformation and craftsmanship of the fitting. Nothing was too much trouble, his attention to detail was second to none; amiable and conscientious in everything he does. As bespoke flooring goes, you'll be hard pushed to match the service and quality anywhere else, not to mention above and beyond aftercare and service, despite them being extremely busy. If you want something with a unique finish, look no further.”

AdrianIllogan

“Peter and team at Aspen and Ash have created a beautiful olive ash floor for our garden room. It has been fascinating to see the whole process and the craftsmanship that goes into making such a unique floor.”

Steve PrettyCornwall

“Just a short note to say how your flooring has transformed my lounge. For 17 years, I have been depressed about the lounge but at last the character of your oak flooring together with the new olive green velvet Duresta sofa that looks beautiful and so compliments the character, and warm colours of the oak. It is also so right for existing antique furnishing. Thank you so much to your choice of colour and John's excellent installation. Best wishes for the future of your company and will certainly recommend you to others.”
